Airtel offers Facebook in regional languages
Facebook users on the Bharti Airtel network will be happy to know that it just got easier to browse the social networking site in regional languages. Last week, Airtel announced that it is offering its prepaid customers across the country free Facebook access in nine regional languages. The service is currently available in Kannada, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. A release from the service provider said that on the mobile phone (whether you’re using an app or the browser), users can view or upload photos, post status updates, comment and write on people’s wall and send messages in any of these nine languages. Users can visit m.facebook.com for details. Airtel said the interface is compatible with Feature, Java, Android, iPhone and Windows devices.
ZTE to deploy Aircel’s 4G network
ZTE India, leading global telecom equipment and solutions providers, announced an agreement with telco Aircel to deploy its 4G LTE network in India. ZTE’s release states that the first stage deployment will be in Chennai and then in the rest of Tamil Nadu. The release quoted Xu Dejun, CEO of ZTE India, saying that in the initial phase, the company aims to offer customers data speeds of over 65 Mbps.
OLX announces app milestone
Online classifieds site OLX announced that its app has crossed the 60 lakh (6 million) downloads and is the market leader among apps in the segment. It also announced that over three quarters of the downloads came from Android devices, indicating the surging popularity of Android as the preferred operating system in India. It also revealed that mobile constitutes 60 per cent of overall traffic to the site. OLX announced that its app, which uses your location coordinates to connect you with buyers/sellers on the go, is ranked 27th among all free apps on the Google Play Store India. Further, the OLX mobile app has seen regular visits from tier-2 and tier-3 cities, growing at 700 per cent in 2013 alone, said Amarjit Batra, CEO, OLX.in, in a release.
Websense gets award
Market analyst firm Frost & Sullivan has conferred online security service provider Websense with the 2013 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Customer Value Enhancement. It has been recognised for the effectiveness of its Triton Solution, which according to Frost & Sullivan is “armed with a system that stops today’s most advanced attacks”. Websense security professionals have one integrated view of their systems to simplify forensics and threat resolution across all channels, the statement adds. The Triton solutions portfolio unifies web security, email security, mobile security, and data loss prevention (DLP). Websense’s release stated that it is only one of the two vendors in the content security market with double digit market share. It has alliances with companies such as F5 Networks, VMware, Citrix, Microsoft, IBM and Facebook, the company stated in the release.
IT workers’ forum to discuss gender
ITHI, a support forum for women working in IT companies, is organising a workshop on gender aimed at increasing awareness on women’s issues, sexual harassment laws and gender in the workplace. Slated to be held on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Jai Bheem Bhavan on J.C. Road, the event will host a discussion with participants from Vimochana, the Karnataka Lekhakiyara Sangha (a women’s writers’ group) and the Stree Jagriti Samiti.
