New line of workstation graphics
AMD recently announced its latest line of workstation graphics, AMD FirePro range of Graphics Processing Units, in the Indian market. The processor company claimed that the range of graphics processors offer higher memory bandwidth and “greater multi-display support performance” for use in computer-aided design and engineering and for media and entertainment professionals.

Ministry chooses Infosys for portal revamp
Indian IT services major Infosys Ltd. recently announced that it has been chosen by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) to implement a “transformation” project worth $50 million. Infosys is to revamp the Ministry’s portal application that would enable stakeholders to deal in a paperless manner with the Ministry.
The MCA21 online portal of the Ministry will enable electronic filing of records, which can be shared among the various Registrars of Companies and Regional Directors across the country. The terms of the contract specify that Infosys would provide services, application support, and infrastructure operations for “at least five years”, according to a statement issued by Infosys. “The transformation to MCA21 v2 will future-proof this programme,” the company claimed.
President to launch A-VIEW today
Amrita University’s e-learning platform, A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World), which is to be launched by President Pranab Mukherjee on November 11, will run on the low-cost Aakash tablet, a statement from the university said.
About 14,000 teachers from across 240 remote centres would attend the launch as part of the workshop on Aakash by Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. The event would be broadcast live to all remote centres through A-VIEW.
New device from Freescale
Freescale Semiconductor recently announced the introduction of a new micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) accelerometer for use in smart meter applications. The tamper-proofing of the device is a key advantage, the company claimed.
“Smart meters are proliferating with the emergence of connected home and smart grid, and protection from physical tampering is a critical requirement,” said Seyed Paransun, vice-president and general manager of Freescale’s Sensor and Actuator Solutions Division. “Freescale is addressing this need with a simple-to-use, cost-effective and extremely low-power three-axis accelerometer with specific embedded functionality.”
