Expansion in Bangalore
LSI Corporation, a provider of innovative silicon, systems and software solutions for storage and networking, has announced expansion plans for its India-based research and development (R&D) operations. LSI currently has major development centres in Bangalore and Pune. The expansion includes opening a new development centre in Bangalore. The company also expects to double the size of its India-based engineering organisation in the next three years.
LSI currently employs more than 1,000 engineers in India, making it the company's largest regional presence outside of the U.S.

Yahoo India announces the Big Idea Chair 2010 for creative and media agencies across India. A global initiative, the ‘Big Idea Chair' celebrates digital innovation across the world. The awards recognise some of the best work by the online community and also call out those creative inputs and integrated strategies that enabled marketing excellence in digital advertising. The award ceremony will be held on December 1 in Mumbai. Entries can be submitted on www.bigideachair.in by September 30.
There are six awards across three categories: Integrated Awards (Yahoo! Big Idea Chair, Best Digital Brand Solution); Display Awards (Best Rich Media Ad, Best Engagement Ad, Best Mobile Solution); and Search Awards: Best Creative Search Awards.
BHEL units win awards
Thirteen Quality Circles of the Electronics Division of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) won the “Gold Award” at the 19th Chapter Convention of Quality Circles (CCQC) held in Bangalore on Sunday. Two other Quality Circles of the Division received the Silver Award. About 220 Quality Circles from 80 leading public and private sector companies participated in the Convention organised by the Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI), Bangalore Chapter.
Openness in the cloud
Microsoft has announced the availability of a new set of developer tools and Software Development Kits (SDKs) for PHP developers who want to build applications for Windows Azure. This was announced at the Open Source India conference, OSI Days 2010, and provides developers with more choice, especially open source developers targeting Windows Azure, a press release from the firm's Bangalore office stated. The company claims that over the past two years it has expanded its open source community project work to support cloud platform interoperability. The Azure Services Platform (Azure) is an Internet-scale cloud services platform hosted in Microsoft data centres, which provides an operating system and a set of developer services that can be used individually or together.
Acer plans to break through the growing Smartphone market in India with the launch of its Liquid E Ferrari special edition. Powered by the Snapdragon mobile processor from Qualcomm, the Ferrari Liquid combines stunning looks with exceptional performance, a press release from Acer stated.
