CONTEST TO ENCOURAGE OPEN DATA

The National Informatics Centre and NASSCOM announced the ‘Open data apps for innovation in governance’, a contest where participants are invited to create unique and useful apps for cross platform and devices using open government data. The contest is open to entrepreneurs, innovators, startups, developers, civil society and professionals in the IT industry. A release from the government said that it was opening thousands of datasets on its data portal http://data.gov.in So far, over 3500 datasets from 49 departments have been published on the portal. To encourage active participation of startups and developers in the challenge, a series of engagement sessions were organised at Adobe India, Microsoft India, International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore, and Wipro in July.
