Facebook has partnered with the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) to launch Internet Safety Education programmes for students aged between 13 and 17. The campaign, which is focused on building community awareness on this issue, will also train educators and child safety NGOs about Internet safety practices. Subho Ray, president of IAMAI, said: “We have been running the Safe Surfing campaign in India for the past four years, covering 625000 students across India. We are delighted that Facebook has come forward to support this critical initiative.”
Wipro BPO wins award
Bangalore-based IT consulting and outsourcing major Wipro announced that its BPO wing has been recognised by the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
Its project implementation was voted as the best by attendees of the 2013 World Conference on Quality and Improvement, a release from Wipro stated. Manoj Punja, Senior Vice-President and Global Head, Wipro BPO, said: “This recognition is a wonderful testimony of Wipro BPO adding measurable business value to our customers through process excellence, collaboration and team work.”
The fifth elephant looks at big data
Tech event management firm HasGeek’s Big Data conference ‘The Fifth Elephant’ got under way here last week. Focussed on two major themes — data storage technologies and choices; and analytics tools, solutions and metrics — the conference saw technologists from across the country participating. Disruptive technologies such as MongoDB, Neo4j and SSD optimised databases were demonstrated giving participants an understanding of how each of these technologies deal with issues of consistency, data availability and performance. Mozilla’s Erik Rose delivered the closing keynote on how Mozilla manages crash reporting data generated from Firefox crashes.
