If a picture is worth a thousand words, Twitter users got a hefty bonus on Wednesday. Dick Costolo, the chief executive officer of the popular micro blogging site, announced that users would now be able to include photos in their tweets, a major change from the limited 140-character messages that Twitter was known for, until now.
“A native photo-sharing experience will be rolled out to 100 per cent of users over the next couple of weeks,” Costolo told the D9 Conference in southern California.
The new service, which Twitter is launching in conjunction with photo-sharing website Photobucket, will replace services that have so far been offered only by third party services such as Twitpic and Yfrog which allow photos and videos to be directly connected to tweets. In addition the new service will also allow photos and videos to be directly viewable on Twitter, without needing to leave the site.
