Hackers have attacked Nigerian government websites to protest against the $6 million budget for the upcoming presidential inauguration. A gory image and a message replaced some of the content on the website of the Niger Delta Development Commission on Friday morning. The National Agency for Poverty Alleviation website was also attacked.
The hackers called themselves the NaijaCyberHactivists and claimed responsibility on Twitter for the attacks. They threatened more attacks on Saturday if the inauguration budget is not reformed.
They have also demanded an investigation over the recent arrests of an opposition politician and others with him. President Goodluck Jonathan will be sworn in on Sunday after winning an April elections marred by religious violence that left hundreds dead.
