Despite all the hiccups, Zuckerberg and his team were developing Facebook every other day. After launching Application Programming Interface (API) in 2006, they launched 'Facebook Platform' in 2007. According to a Facebook Developers Blog, Facebook Platform enabled third party developers to build social application within Facebook. Carrying forward, they launched 'Facebook Connect' in 2008. The same blog says: "Facebook Connect is the next iteration of Facebook Platform that allows users to "connect" their Facebook identity, friends and privacy to any site." Photo: AP
July, this year, Facebook claimed it now had 500 million users. Since August 2010, it has added two new aspects to its burgeoning portfolio. The first was a "Places" tool. The "Places" tool gave the users an opportunity to "check-in" and update their location closest to that "place". This created a huge furore, not surprisingly, on privacy. Whilst this feature is currently available in the U.S. alone, Facebook has talked about extending this to other countries. It also recently announced a tie-up with Skype Technologies S.A.. Photo: AP
