A new app in the App Store lets you create animated GIFs from your text and selfies, and then share them with your friends via iMessage, Instagram, or other such services. The app appeals to people in all age groups, and its simplicity makes it easy to use for everyone.

When you fire the app up, it launches into a compose mode that requires you to type the text you want to turn into an animated GIF. You do not need any cloud accounts, and neither do you need any In–App purchases and social requirements. All you have to do is type in the text that gets converted into uppercase in a preview window at the top. You can assign each word specific background and text colours, which will give bold and flashy animations when converted into a GIF.

In case you want to edit a word that is already typed, then just tap the word to place the cursor and edit it.

While typing, if you feel that you need to add a photo, then you can tap the camera button to add a photograph at any point. It looks like it is intended for selfies, but you can switch to the rear camera and activate the phone’s flash if the need be. You can add multiple photos to each GIF and mix them with words to give extremely funny effects.

Once you are done, all you have to do is tap on Return on the keyboard, and the app will automatically create a GIF that you can send to your friends. In addition to sharing the photos via iMessage, Instagram, Email, the app also includes system services like Mail and Facebook, but does not support iOS’ Open In menu. It saves all the GIFs as videos to the Camera Roll.

All your GIFs will, however, be accompanied by a blurb that says, “Made with Ultratext”.

It is simple, it is fun, and it is free on the App Store.
