For all the hoo-ha on keeping one’s personal and professional life separate, the sad truth is most of us are unable to. There are times when we have to receive or make frantic calls regarding work or have to attend to something office-related on the go. The following apps not only assist you with that, they are great options for when you’re travelling for business purposes.

CamCard

You’re at a party and schmoozing like there’s no tomorrow. Of course, you’re a little charmer and so you go back home with a bunch of business cards tucked safely away in your pocket/clutch. You can always file them away safely, put them in a box and hunt high and low for the darn thing when you really need it, or you could use CamCard, click a photo of the business card and let the app work its magic. It will extract names, addresses, phone numbers and other contact details and save/update your address book. The app also updates you in case of a contact receiving a promotion or changing jobs. And, of course, all the contact information can be synced across devices.

iAnnotate

The app is pretty self-explanatory. You have documents, you need to annotate them, you open the document on your phone through the app and do the needful. The app includes tools like the iAnnotate pen, underline, strike, pop-up note, highlighter, et al. The mark-up on any document is integrated and the entire thing is saved as a PDF file, which can later be opened across devices through any PDF reader. You can also work on multiple documents at the same time and hunt for relevant or related files easily. The developers have promised more features and I, for one, am keeping an eye out.

Alt-C

Yup. That’s all it does. It copies information. However, the information it copies is across devices. Basically, the app lets you copy information to your phone from your PC and vice versa. All you need to do is install the app on your phone as well as your desktop system, manually highlight the text you need copied and press the hotkey combination Alt and C, et voila! The text appears on your smart phone. To copy text from your phone to the PC, copy it on your clipboard the usual way, open the app on both devices, and use the hotkey combination Alt and V to paste it on the PC. Of course, you do need to be connected to the internet for this one.

PPT and Whiteboard Sharing

Earlier called MightyMeeting, the app is pretty handy for when you have to share your presentations or collaborate on the go. You can save presentations to the app, annotate them, or share them personally or with a team. You can also connect your phone to a projector and present them in a meeting. Apart from presentations, the app lets you collaborate over a shared whiteboard or documents and blueprints/drawings. It goes without saying that you need good 3G/4G connectivity or WiFi for the same.
