Nintendo shuts down online search functions for older Wii and DS

Wii and DS gamers are set to lose some of their online accessibility when the company shuts down internet access for the two older services on May 20.

When the day comes, players of games like Mario Kart Wii and a variety of Pokemon titles will no longer have access to multi-player options or high score comparisons. However, users will still be able to download new games from online shops.

The successor consoles to both services — Wii U and 3DS — will continue to be fully accessible online.
