Nutmeg? Neyappam? Nectarines?

Google put all speculation to rest on Thursday and officially announced the nickname of the latest version of android, > Android N — Android Nougat.

Sorry Kerala, better luck next time.

Malayali netizens (and others) had been > campaigning for Android N to be named Neyappam, after the traditional Kerala snack made of rice, jaggery and of course, ghee.

Every Android version has been named after a confectionary in alphabetic order, starting with Cupcake, which was followed by Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop and the latest Marshmallow (Android 6.0).

Other names in competition included nachos, nori (edible seaweed, a Japanese delicacy), nougat, nectar, nectarine and navy bean.

The upgraded software brings with it new features like split-screen multitasking, an improved notification shade and Daydream, Google's new virtual reality platform.
