The new Samsung Galaxy S 4 is presented during the Samsung Unpacked event at Radio City Music Hall, in New York on Thursday.

In the biggest challenge to date to Apple’s smartphone dominance Samsung on Thursday launched the Galaxy S4, touting several features not available on iPhones.

Due to go on sale in late April in 55 countries, the new device sports a 5-inch HD AMOLED screen with a density of 441 pixels per inch.

It includes a 13MP and 2 MP dual camera capable of taking shots with both lenses simultaneously while recording sound and attaching it to the image. Dual video recording is possible, Samsung said.

The phone will run on Google’s Android operating system, with extra layers of Samsung software, which the South Korean electronics giant hopes will differentiate it from both Apple’s iPhone and numerous Android rivals.

Other notable features include the S Translator, which converts spoken and written language on the fly, Smart Scroll and Smart Pause, which track eye movements to automatically scroll the screen or pause videos, and Air View and Air gesture, which allow users to control icons by hovering their finger over the screen, and accept calls by waving their hands. An app called S Drive uses voice recognition to control navigation and communications while driving.

The phone will ship with the latest version of Android, known as Jelly Bean, and will have a choice of 16, 32 or 64 gigabytes of internal storage, as well as a micro SD slot for adding up to 64 GB of card memory. It has 2 GB of RAM memory and a 2600 mAh battery.

Analysts have cast the S4 as the most significant challenge to the iPhone’s dominance, based on Samsung’s powerful market position and the popularity of its S3 predecessor.

With Galaxy S4, will Samsung outsmart Apple?March 16, 2013

Initially I did say that the Galaxy S4 is in no comparison to Iphone.
I divide it in terms of OS, features and the Battery.

Coming to the OS, as it powers the latest Android OS JB, SGS4 is way ahead. But the "thing" missing despite having a powerful OS is its vulnerability to be attacked by the malware/virus in which IOS is advanced. Yes, the processor of the S4 is very promising and also hope it delivers a very smooth performance.

Coming to the features of the phone as it says, yes SGS4 engineers have really come up with a very SMART ideas and making the touch experience go touchless. The dual operating mode of camera, the photo which plays the surrounding sound which were there while taking the picture. The dual camera use with their new software or i did better say "I WAS THERE MODE" really makes the pictures fun. The auto scroll, auto pause also keeps it much ahead of APPLE.

Coming to the battery life, I did give my vote to iP5 coz it has a really good and amazing battery life.

The hardware specs look good, but most of the software specs look gimmicky. I for one cant bear the site of the plastic phone aka samsung galaxy. The rest of the companies still beat samsung when it comes to build quality. But these days with good marketing you can generate your own dumb fan followers who will end up buying whatever you throw at them.Samsung copied apple even in this matter.

Apple was never in the race of smartphones. It is the godfather of all
smartphones. Apple's touch sense, its integration with iCloud, app
updates and most important its material & durability, can't be matched
with other plastic body smartphones in the market.

Although feature wise both galaxy s2 and s3 were better than their contemporary iphones, it is a fact that in the older smartphone markets specially the US, iphone still is the phone of choice. In the US people don't bother about any other phone. This fact might be difficult to understand for newer markets like India where people can give equal thought to both iphone and galaxy.

5 inch! Is that a phone or a tablet? A bigger and a larger phone is
easier to make. Apple haters should understand that Apple has taken up
the challenge of maker thinner, lighter and yet came up with phenomenal
battery power. On top of that all the specs that Samsung lovers brag
about doesn't really matter. The experience with iPhone 5 is
incomparable to any phones in the market so far. |I am eagerly waiting
to see some decent phone that could come close to iPhone.

Samsung's reliance on Android is paying it off edging apple from every
quarters. Yep undisputably its by far the most superior smartphone
ever featuring Exynos 5 Octa(8-Core) CPU. Apple is of no match to its
seemingly high-ended configurations and capabilities.
Surely must've left the Apple inc's flabbergasted who are already crestfallen with dwindling shares and diminishing market. Truly Samsung has this one covered up all the while which payed them off in Apple style..
Way to go apple freaks. The frenetic competition is heating up far more to get some edge over other. Lets wait for the Apple inc's answer.

In challenge to Apple?? Come on. This phone is far superior than 5s. We should not even compare with iphone. HTC one is the right phone to compare with.

Iphone dominance? What dominance you are talking about ? Apple's shares have fallen from $702 to just $430 and galaxy s3, note 2 was grand hit in all the markets.Galaxy s3 has generated more revenues for samsung and that too when it is 10-15k cheaper than iphone 5.
