Walt Disney India is all set to launch its online and mobile applications for young subscribers. While the online version will be a WAP site, a one-stop shop for all Disney products, the mobile version will be a ‘Disney magic' application, where Mickey Mouse will welcome you to a world of Disney magic.
Nitin Chawla, executive director, Disney Interactive Media Group (DIMG) that takes care of the online and mobile aspects of the company, says, “The magic application will soon be available with one of the top three service providers. The application will have different categories that will open up to things such as games, wallpapers, story telling sessions and other things.”
The company has already launched mobile games such as Aladin, Hercules and Jungle Book, which according to Nitin, are doing well. “We've already had about 4 million downloads for Aladin in the last six months. We'll be introducing 10 more games in the magic app,” he adds. In September 2010, Disney Online Studios also launched a localised rupee payment gateway for the popular Club Penguin, which is one of the largest and fastest-growing virtual worlds for children.
“We think India is uniquely positioned when it comes to the mobile market because there's so much scope here.
We want our site to become a family site where you can create and share content, play games together and share memories,” says Nitin. There are plans to get into social gaming soon.
