Distinguished scientist Dr S. Ramachandran who has been chosen for the Padma Bhushan this year, wants the credit for the award to be shared with his colleagues in the field of biotechnology.

“It is an honour that I would like to share with my fellow biotechnologists who made these programmes a success,” he said.

Dr. Ramachandran was the first Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology of the Union government.

The Chennai-born scientist's work was aimed at the advancement of modern biology through programmes like immunisation of children, aquaculture, tissue culture, embryo transfer technology, academic and industrial training and the setting up of a Biotechnology Information Systems network.

C.N. Raghavendran, a Chennai-based architect, has been chosen for Padma Shri.
