‘Our Solar System', a new science show developed by the Regional Science Centre (RSC)- Kozhikode, was inaugurated here on Saturday. Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre associate director John P. Zachariah announced the launch of the 25-minute show.
Delivering the inaugural address, Mr. Zachariah said it was a matter of pride for RSC-Kozhikode that the number of visitors to the centre was increasing day by day. He described the centre as one of the best of such units in India and lauded the efforts of the district education department and the education standing committee for making the centre known all across the State.
Education standing committee chairman M. Radhakrishnan presided over the function. Deputy Director of Education K.V. Vinod Babu, RSC director V.S. Ramachandran and Education officer K.M. Sunil were present at the function.
An interaction programme for higher secondary school teachers of physics was also held in connection with the inaugural ceremony. Mr. Zachariah presented a paper on the latest developments in the field of space technology.
International accolade
The International Science Centre (ISC) based in the US has selected the Regional Science Centre here as the best among its counterparts operating in various parts of India. The ISC has also invited centre's director to present a paper on ‘role of science in society' during an international conference scheduled to commence in the US on October 2.
Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Ramachandran said the accolade was a result of joint effort of the people associated with the development of the centre in Kozhikode. India would be one among the 140 representatives selected for the international seminar, he added.
