Over 40 scientists will analyse weather data gathered over 60 years to get a clearer picture of the Indian monsoon, and revise the dates given for the annual rainy season across the country.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is contemplating to revise the normal onset dates for the monsoon across the country, an official said.
For the national capital, the new normal date of monsoon would be June 30 as against June 29.
“The change in dates will happen in the near future. A committee consisting of over 40 scientists will be analysing the data and the dates will come into effect from next season,” Ajit Tyagi, director general of IMD, told IANS.
Scientists will analyse data accumulated over 60 years from 1951-2000, he said.
The changes in the dates will give a clearer picture on the onset and progress of the monsoon.
