Eight years ago, Zia Fariya left her job as a web designer and became a full-time yoga instructor. Fariya, who believes yoga works as a remedy for many of the problems ailing the working class these days, distills its value down to a few concepts. “Mind, body and breath, all three work together in yoga and help in overall healing.”

On the occasion of International Yoga Day this year, she is introducing a few new methods into her classes at Vesoma Fitness in North Bengaluru. “The Tibetan healing bowl meditation is a method of healing by the music from the bowls. The calming vibrations from the bowls make the meditation more intense and powerful. It has not been introduced in India yet, I want people to experience something different.”

The city is also set to play host to Tao Porchon Lynch (98), who holds the Guinness World Record for being the world’s oldest yoga teacher. Lynch will conduct a four-day workshop organised by Shwaasa Yoga, a yoga retreat centre in the city, which includes two 90 minute sessions on all days, divided into 60 minutes of yoga and 30 minutes of interactive activities.

The workshop will be held at Shangri-La Hotel from June 22 to 25, from 7 am.
