Rajasthan worst hit, followed by Maharashtra

With 32 more deaths due to swine flu being reported, the death toll on account of the disease touched 703 in the country on Thursday. The total number of cases registered rose to 11071.

Rajasthan with 346 new cases and seven deaths continued to be the worst affected State, followed by Maharashtra with 109 cases and four deaths and Madhya Pradesh with 34 cases and one death.

With the alarm bells ringing over the outbreak, the National Crisis Management Committee, under the chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth, reviewed the situation and offered States necessary central assistance.

Chief Secretaries and medical heads of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi were part of the review meeting with the Cabinet Secretary through video conferencing and discussed the availability of drugs, testing kits, diagnostic labs, personal protective equipment, masks etc., in their States.

“Maharashtra and Haryana have requested for some medicines to augment their stock,” said an official.
