Pointing to the dangers of tobacco consumption, actor and former union minister Shatrughan Sinha today asked children to become ambassadors of the anti—tobacco campaign.

“Children should act as ambassadors of the crusade against tobacco use at home as well as in society,” Sinha said addressing the silver jubilee function of DAV school, New Shimla.

Children can play an important role by dissuading their parents and elders from consuming tobacco. “Ask your parents and elders that you will not accept any gift on your birthday except a promise that they will not smoke cigarette, bidi, hookah,” the BJP Lok Sabha MP from Patna Saheb in Bihar said.

Quoting figures, he said that “every 10 seconds a person dies of tobacco related disease in the world and in India every 40 seconds a person dies of the same.”
