Maintaining that he wanted “absolute transparency” in the functioning of his ministry, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has warned of stern action against medical colleges approaching persons claiming proximity to him for getting recognition for their institutions.
In a letter to deans and principals of all medical and dental colleges, the minister has said, “it has come to my notice that some persons who are proclaiming themselves close to me are approaching various colleges for both Under Graduation and Post Graduation courses for the year 2010-11”.
Asserting that he has “not authorised any individuals or organisation to approach any medical college or
authorities” on his behalf, Mr. Azad said, “If any college authority entertains such middlemen or brokers, then I would not hesitate to take stern and stringent action, including withdrawal of recognition or debarring from admitting a new batch of students for a year or two”.
The letter asked the principals to inform the health ministry or even call him personally in case anybody
approaches them with such an offer. “I once again want to reiterate that I want to maintain absolute transparency in the functioning of my ministry,” the minister said.
