Doctors should address the problem of bridging the gap in delivery of medical care to the people, particularly in the semi urban and rural areas, Special Secretary to the Department of Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department G. Sudhir said here on Saturday.
Concerted efforts were needed in delivery of medical care to the areas like rural and tribal populations since a number of problems and imponderables were being faced in spite of the government giving this sector a lot of priority and spending large amount of funds, Mr. Sudhir said while inaugurating Cuticon, the 32nd conference of the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists' State unit.
He also asked the medical professionals to find ways to bring down the cost of medical treatment and persuade doctors to work in the rural areas since the Government's efforts had not been totally successful.
Efforts were on to increase the intake into MBBS course by 500 seats and the PG seats, the Special Secretary said. The need to appoint more Associate Professors in medical colleges would be addressed to, he assure.
