I plan to learn swimming. Suggest a suitable skin and hair care routine to prevent tanning and hair loss. — Geetha
Apply a water resistant sunscreen lotion on the face and exposed areas for about 20 minutes before a swim. If the skin is sensitive to sun burn or sun damage, the SPF should be 30 or 40. If you are in the water for long, re-apply the sunscreen. Use a facial scrub twice a week. Apply it on the face, rubbing it gently on the skin using small circular movements. Leave it on for five minutes, before washing it off. Mix one teaspoon each of honey and lemon juice and apply it daily on your face, at any time. Wash it off after 20 minutes. Wet your hair thoroughly before a swim. Wet hair absorbs less chlorinated water. Apply a conditioner or hair serum and wear a cap before swimming. Rinse the hair thoroughly after a swim. Apply a hair serum or leave in conditioner.
I recently waxed my upper lip. Is it safe to use wax on the face? What care should be taken after waxing? — Aalekhya
Waxing may be done on the face using waxing strips or cold wax. After waxing, apply an astringent lotion on the waxed area. You can also take some ice in a clean cloth and apply it on the waxed area for a few seconds at a time. If there are any eruptions, add a little rose water to sandalwood paste and apply it on the area. Waxing is said to gradually lessen hair growth.
What should I do to get rid of dandruff? — Avi
Apply a non-oily herbal hair tonic daily on the scalp and leave it on. Wash your hair with a mild herbal shampoo three or four times a week, using less shampoo and rinsing it off well with water. Half an hour before a shampoo wash, lightly massage your scalp with two tablespoons of vinegar. Once a week, heat olive oil or til oil and apply it on the scalp at night. Leave it on overnight. The following morning, apply the juice of a lemon 15 minutes before a shampoo wash. Weekly henna treatments will help. Include fresh fruits, raw salads, sprouts and yoghurt in your daily diet. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily. Add the juice of a lemon to a glass of water and drink it first thing in the morning.
Suggest a suitable treatment for dark lips. — Rama
The skin of the lips is very thin and delicate. After washing your face, rub your lips gently when they are still wet with a soft towel. This helps remove dead skin. Then apply cream of milk and leave it on for an hour. Add a few drops of lemon juice to the cream before application. Apply almond oil daily on the lips at night and leave it on overnight. You can also try a lip balm with sunscreen.
