A poor diet during pregnancy may increase the risk of a woman’s children developing diabetes later in life, according to a study.
British researchers found that a gene in rats could be altered in the womb by a poor diet, reports the Daily Express.
They also found offspring of protein-deficient rats developed type-2 diabetes.
The researchers believe that a similar mechanism could also occur in humans who could pass it on to their unborn offspring who may develop diabetes decades later.
