If all the women in the world who do not have access to menstrual hygiene products are put together, the number would almost be equivalent to the population of our country. Yes, the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (a UN organisation) says that 1.2 billion women worldwide still lack access to basic sanitation and hygiene.

According to the National Family Health Survey report published in December 2017, only 58 % of women in the age group of 15 to 24 in our country use a hygienic method of menstrual protection. Locally prepared napkins, sanitary napkins, and tampons were considered to be hygienic methods of protection.

The map below shows the percentage of women using hygienic method of protection in each State.
