Eating few mango varieties could help you lose weight, but only if you eat the skin you normally throw away, Australian researchers have claimed.
Advising that while eating the wrong variety of this fruit could have the opposite effect.
University of Queensland scientists have found the skins of the common Irwin and Nam Doc Mai varieties contain compounds that inhibit the formation of human fat cells.
On contrary, the skin of the Kensington Pride mango has compounds that promote fat cell growth, according to an AAP report.
Mike Gidley said lab tests involved exposing human fat cells to extracts from the skin and flesh of three varieties.
He said there was a long way to go, but the findings opened up the possibility of a supplement that could help fight obesity.
“The next stage is to identify the useful molecules in the peel that inhibited fat cell formation,” Mr. Gidley said.

May I know the names of variety types of mangoes in Indian name ?
Hindu should make its writers do a little bit of research to make such articles useful. The headline is itself misleading It should be mangoskins not mangoes. But what is in the mangoskin which helps reduce fat is not clear!
It's not bad an article at all. Some information is always better than no information. I did some google-image research and I believe the Irwin mangoes resemble the 'Kalapettai' variety. The redness of the skin and the small fibre covered seed suggests it's some sort of cousin to 'Kalapettai'. I think this variety is very popular in the Andhra districts. Anyways, i am not completely sure of my little research. Perhaps, you guys too could do some homework!

Second variety is "thothapuri" - as in Kannada. Alternatively, you can google-out the names for images and get to know the varieties.
This is what happens when there is a disconnect between subject matter experts (Indian farmers) and academics. Oh Now the Thailand, Indian Hi tech Agro experts are doing what american doctors and
experts do. They pick one chemical and say it is good for this and publish an article. You
eat a fruit because it is good for you. Dont look into each element in it and then add it to
your diet. After years they will say that " that chemical when you have X gms of it will cause
cancer of some part... Oops". Look at the entire food plate.

US, so I guess this article is not for us.
Without the equivalient Indian names, this article does not make much sense. Going by the picture, it looks like the "Kizhi Mookku" falls under the good variety.

relevance if you give names of mangoes that don't have any relevance in
India. These are not even grown in India. Do some real journalism and
take at least the trouble to research a little, ask questions, etc.

Make sure you eat mangoes as is. But if you add sugar into the milk sj\hake, you are NOT going to be saved from guaranteed obesity, diabetes and other diseases waiting around the corner to visit you. So eat always lots of vegetables and fruits. And also exercise and walk and do not watch too much TV. They are one of the best foods produced by nature.

We usually like mango milk shake, but both are negative foods according to ayurveda (i.e. Virudha ahaara). We misdirected by the tongue from what our body deserve or want.
