Microsoft Corporation on Wednesday launched the Windows Phone operating system in India, promising rich and dynamic user interface even as leading smartphone players, including Nokia, Samsung, HTC and Acer, announced plans to introduce the new operating system in their future phones.

The Windows Phone 7.5 version, which is also known as Mango, has a new rich user interface of Live Tiles and Hubs, which will help users quickly find the information required and connect, while smooth transitional user interface called ‘Metro' is a visually appealing modern design language based on a set of principles which are modern, clean, alive in motion, and authentically digital. “With Windows Phone, we have looked at the consumer experience in an absolutely fresh way, and the end result is an innovative operating system which seamlessly integrates the most sought after user experiences like search, gaming, email and social networks,” Microsoft India Chairman Bhaskar Pramanik told journalists here. The conventional application icons have been replaced by Live Tiles, which keep showing real-time updates from the Web such as news, appointments or the status of friends, he added.

Microsoft also revealed a range of Windows Phone devices that will be available in India soon, the first being the HTC Radar. This will be followed by devices from Samsung and Acer, and subsequently Nokia.

“The new HTC Radar smartphone raises the bar with new advanced photography, multimedia and social capabilities that enable you to take full advantage of the latest Windows Phone innovations,” said HTC India Country Manager Faisal Siddiqui. To be available from next week onwards, the HTC Radar will be priced at Rs.23,990.
