Visitors to the Vandalur zoo will get to see five white tiger cubs and their mother in three months.
This was announced by the zoo authorities on Monday when mediapersons were allowed to photograph the three 22-day-old cubs.
The mother and the three cubs are kept in isolation. Two cubs that were born last year and their father are left in the open area in turns.
Of the five cubs in the zoo, four are females. The tigress at the zoo gave birth for the first time in March last year.
All the three cubs were females. One died days after birth. The second time the tigress gave birth to two female cubs and a male cub. The authorities are happy with the successful breeding of white tigers at the zoo.
Within four years of its arrival at the Vandalur zoo, the female white tigress had given birth to six cubs. Adequate protection, good veterinary care and hygienic enclosures ensured better protection to this endangered species, the authorities said.
