A lion and lioness were on Thursday brought from Kanan Pendari Zoo in Bilaspur to the Van Vihar Zoo and Animal Rescue Centre here.

“Lion Sultan and lioness Jamuna (both 17) were brought by road to Van Vihar,” Zoo Assistant Director A.K. Khare told PTI .

He said Sultan and Jamuna were fine and added they were rescued from Raj Kamal circus in Korba in 2006.

The other animals that were rescued from the circus had already been brought to Van Vihar — the lone animal rescue centre of Central India.

They were brought to Van Vihar under the guidelines of Central Zoo Authority, the Assistant Director said.
