April 08, 2010 11:23 pm | Updated 11:23 pm IST - IMPHAL:

A rare king cobra, 9 feet 4 inches long and 8 inches in diameter, was captured alive in a house here on Wednesday night. It is the biggest cobra caught in Manipur. Chungkham Ibomcha of Lamlai in Imphal East district spotted the cobra inside his kitchen, and called a snatch catcher.

The reptile was taken to the local community hall for public viewing. Wildlife enthusiasts dissuaded the villagers from killing the snake and it was handed over to the Manipur Zoological garden officials at Iroishemba.
