Leopard beaten to death by villagers in UP

A leopard was on Saturday killed by angry villagers after it attacked and injured two persons in a village in Katarniaghat wildlife division in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh.

Vipnesh (22) and Bablu (20) working in a sugarcane field were attacked and injured by the leopard following which irate villagers attacked the animal with lathis leading to its death, Divisional forest officer, Ashish Tewari said.

Though the forest staff, who have been alerted, are patrolling the areas where leopards have been sighted in the recent past, there was no report of its presence in this village, the DFO said, adding, that by the time the teams could reach the spot, the beast had been killed.

The leopard was about 4 to 5 years old.

A team of three doctors performed the post—mortem on the animal, Tewari said, adding that the injured were admitted to hospital.
