Tamil Nadu Toddy Movement and coconut farmers today asked the Tamil Nadu government to declare toddy as health drink and revoke the 22-year ban and allow tapping and sales of Palmyrah and Coconut toddy before April 30.

If the government did not take steps in this regard before the scheduled date, then the movement would ‘create hurdle’ for smooth conduct of World Tamil Classical Conference scheduled here from June 23, movement leaders N. S. Palanisamy and S. Duraisamy said while observing a fast on the issue along with 200 farmers here.

The farmers said the government, which was selling Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) through its own outlets, should take steps to manufacture IMFL, with palm and coconut toddy as base material and sell through its outlets.
