Spacescape
How do you provide a comfortable room for your visiting parents rather than relegating them to a mattress on the non air-conditioned living room floor, without dislodging your child from his or her room? Try this.
Akshaya normally has a room all to herself in her fifth floor house at Saidapet. Done in pink and blue with cheery images of happy fish and dainty flowers, the room is obviously a girl’s haunt.
When her grandparents come visiting, a happy compromise is made with Akshaya moving over to the bunk bed atop the regular bed.
A gaily coloured rope ladder and the fact that the bunk bed is not walled over by solid wood at its sides ensures that the arrangement is not claustrophobic or stuffy.
Smooth rolling drawers beneath the regular bed offers space for the ensuing extra storage needs. The bunk bed is positioned by the window, and were Akshaya to open her eyes at midnight, her eyes can feast on the starlit night sky.
Do not place the bed by the window in the ground or lower floors either, for obvious security reasons.
