How many times have you walked into posh buildings and left to struggle with a leaking faucet, or deal with distasteful door handles? “When architects take painful measures to design intricate buildings, it is only fair that building accessories match their surroundings,” says Jerry Manko, vice-president and General Manager of Black & Decker’s international har
dware and home improvement business. With the rise of top-notch building constructions in India, Black & Decker, the hardware and home improvement group and world leaders in power tools, caters to the need of builders’ product architecture. It views the Indian market as an important pit stop.
Black & Decker, which has been selling its products in India for the past 10 years under brand names such as Baldwin, Kwikset, Price Pfister and Weiser Lock, unveiled Kwikset’s latest innovative security system — the Smart Series comprising three innovative and creatively designed locking systems and Price Pfister’s Avanthi collection of faucets.
The first of the SmartSeries, called SmartKey, allows its consumers to re-key locks (change the key from the existing one to a new one) in just 30 seconds, without removing the lock from the door.
This technology will help reduce theft, as people can re-key their locks if they feel copies of the key have fallen into untrustworthy hands. The SmartScan takes a three-dimensional scan of the fingerprint using the latest technology.
It can store 50 fingerprints and can be operated manually (using a key) too.
SmartCode, the third of the family, allows the creation of two access codes and is the latest in key-less entry systems.
Price Pfister has devised a method of conserving water by reducing the width of cartridges from 44 mm to 25 mm and released the new Avanti collection of faucets which introduced four new families — Aria, Isola, Lago and Kenzo.
The company does not stop at faucets as it also manufactures matching accessories. “We have used Asian design aspects that make these products give you a ‘Zen feel’ like no other product line,” says Manko.
The products are aimed at large construction projects and are in the medium to high price range category. The company plans to develop products for a lower price range in the close future.
