Rain, rain, come again

June 09, 2013 12:55 am | Updated 12:55 am IST

The parching earth yearns for the rains.

The scorching minds look at the skies.

Birds and animals cry for the rains.

When two people talk, rain is the topic.

In air-conditioned cars,

Ministers and collectors travel,

To initiate drought-relief works.

Trees are felled to widen the roads.

People are told not to waste water,

When they have no water to drink.

But nobody is asking why the rains fail.

Power cut becomes the order of the day.

Ministers and bureaucrats love the people.

And hate to see the ‘power-less’ people,

And propose to destroy the

still remaining forest patch and a river,

To make power, to save the people!

People are waiting for the rains,

As Vladimir and Estragon were

waiting for Godot.
