Yet another scam

Even while the UPA government is wondering how to tackle civil society's anti-corruption campaign comes the CAG's shocking disclosure that the government provided undue benefits to Reliance Industries Limited in the Krishna Godavari basin gas fields.

While the 2G and the CWG scam led to a loss of thousands of crores to the exchequer, the losses from the KG issue are not even quantifiable, according to the CAG. The Manmohan Singh government has lost the moral ground to continue in power. The need for an effective Lokpal has been reinforced.

Kshitij Bansal,

Patiala

The news of RIL getting huge undue benefits from the government is the hallmark of the capitalist system. It allows the corporates to corner as much of the societal wealth as possible, so that they can distribute a part of the loot as corporate social responsibility. How many more social crimes need to be unravelled to convince our society about the need for a rehaul of a system that lopsidedly allows a few to exploit the conditions to siphon off a major part of wealth, while creating impoverishment for a majority?

Surely, Dr. Singh can be proud of his scam-infested regime. It will be no wonder if he claims that he is totally unaware of the favours done to RIL.
