The removal of psephologist Yogendra Yadav from the University Grants Commission because of his association with the Aam Aadmi Party is unfortunate. The government’s fear that Mr. Yadav’s association with the AAP will give scope for the politicisation of the UGC is ill-founded.

C.V. Aravind,

The government has done the right thing by removing Mr. Yadav from the UGC. Recruitments and appointments come with lots of dos and don’ts and any violation merits action. Leniency will set a bad precedent. Politics and education are poles apart. Mr. Yadav could have resigned from the UGC and joined the Aam Aadmi Party.

Balasubramaniam Pavani,

Yogendra Yadav sacked September 18, 2013
