The Open Page article, “To whom does Mumbai belong, Mr. Thackeray?,” (March 21) stresses on the immediate need to accelerate development in the backward and grossly neglected rural and urban areas of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to stop the migration of labour. At the same time, one should remember that what with the vast employment potential in Mumbai, unskilled labour from various parts of the country migrate to earn their livelihood. The Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena should not forget that the tremendous growth and development of Mumbai was the result of the sweat and blood of the migrant workers from various States. After all, Mumbai belongs to India and nobody can question an individual's right to live in Mumbai. It is only for political gain that the Shiv Sena and the MNS are creating a hullabaloo over the issue.
