What India should do

By calling Burhan Wani a young leader and glorifying him, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has walked into a trap and lent credence to the call to brand Pakistan a terrorist state (“India claims diplomatic win over Pakistan at U.N., Sept. 23). Mr. Sharif was left alone at the UN General Assembly as no nation is prepared to support his stand. Even Pakistan’s supporter China has expressed only meek generic statements. This is evidence of the diplomatic offensive that India has launched. But is this sufficient to satisfy the wrath that the Uri terror attack has produced?

As regards the preparedness on the borders, it is necessary to strengthen existing radar surveillance, night-vision devices, infrared and thermal cameras to detect the movement of intruders. Stepping up security along the Line of Control is the urgent need of the hour to prevent more such attacks.

At this point, it is wise for India to not get involved in any sort of war with Pakistan. War brings misery. Our country has a vision. We want to eliminate poverty, corruption and illiteracy. India is doing the right thing by isolating Pakistan and forcing the country to take action against terrorists without declaring war.
