This refers to the article “Conversation flows, ideas don’t” (Nov. 24) by T.M. Krishna. There is no denying that nobody talks about the aam aadmi in the real sense of the term. It has become a fashion to conduct seminars, conferences, symposiums and conclaves involving high-profile personalities. They come and deliver heavy speeches prepared by professionals.
The story does not end here. If you go to any university in India, you will find a plethora of such events taking place. A huge amount of money is sanctioned by the UGC, the ICSSR, and the MHRD to finance the events. On the other side, the condition of government schools is going from bad to worse. Government hospitals lack the space to accommodate patients.

It was satisfying to see someone write about the uselessness of conferences and conclaves organised by media organisations. Such events are nothing more than PR exercises for the hosts and the guests.
