Water gone waste

August 16, 2013 12:49 am | Updated 12:49 am IST

I visited Swami Malai near Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, recently and crossed the Cauvery. Oh, what a sight it was. To a person from perennially water-starved Chennai, Mother Cauvery ( Annai ) in full flow was something both wonderful and delightful. But then the thought that so much water was flowing into the sea made me sad.

The delta farmers who made so much noise (legitimately, of course) don’t seem bothered about taking steps to store the surplus water, nor does the State government which pleaded with Karnataka to release water, seem to care about the loss of precious water.
