This refers to Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid’s call to India Inc. to stop showering “vulgar” salaries on its CEOs (Oct. 5). His statement that the government was working on educating the corporate fraternity on whether there was an upper limit to the salaries of CEOs is admirable too.
The layman’s wonder is: will it not be prudent for politicians to look within before preaching others on “vulgarity?” If the expenses incurred on their travel, telephone bills, fuel and other perks given to them are curtailed, there will be ample scope for saving a huge chunk of money for the nation.

The message to the CEOs to rein in their vulgar splurge in their emoluments was long overdue. The insensitivity of the corporate sector to the inequalities in our society is appalling. The state should step in to control the profligacy of the upper classes by garnering the resources from them to fund the requirements of the social sector, especially when severe drought and unprecedented floods have played havoc in many parts of the country.
