It is difficult to believe that the robust, vibrant and mesmerising voice of T.M. Soundararajan that captivated the Tamil audience for decades has fallen silent. The fact that TMS could sing with effortless ease in different voices for different actors is well known. Along with P.B. Srinivas and Sirkazhi Govindarajan, TMS formed a trio and the three ruled the Tamil film industry for many years. The devotional songs TMS rendered are evergreen and waft through the wind mellifluously even today.

TMS had a unique way of modulating his rich voice for the two great stalwarts of his time — M.G. Ramachandran and ‘Sivaji’ Ganesan. What Mohammad Rafi was to Hindi film music world, TMS was to Tamil film music.

The soul-stirring music of Viswanathan and Mahadevan, touching lyrics of Kannadasan and the golden voice of TMS gave Tamil music lovers not just songs but drops of heavenly elixir.
