By agreeing to swap a major part of the low-enriched uranium stocks with Turkey for an equivalent amount of uranium enriched to 19.75 per cent as part of a deal brokered by Brazil and Turkey (May 18), Iran has successfully snubbed the United States and its persistent efforts to slap punitive sanctions against it. This breakthrough deal has demonstrated in unequivocal terms that space for diplomacy does exist and negotiations are the only way to resolve all issues concerning Iran's nuclear programme.
