This refers to Canada's decision to deny a retired head constable of the BSF a permanent visa on the ground that it was a “violent” and “notorious” force (May 22). Canada has every right to deny a visa but describing the BSF as a violent force is uncalled for.
The BSF is a paramilitary force tasked to protect our borders from incursions. Its personnel have to necessarily use force.

Canada has a sovereign right to refuse a visa to anybody but it cannot pass comments on a reliable and respected paramilitary force. I consider it an outright affront.
Canada must be told that no country, however powerful, has a right to insult another democratic country's paramilitary forces, which have been used by the United Nations to maintain peace in many troubled countries.
