Unions and reforms

May 18, 2015 03:03 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:05 pm IST

In its previous spell, the NDA government tried to bring about sea changes in labour laws under the guise of implementing the recommendations of the Second Labour Commission chaired by Ravindra Verma ( >“Trade unions prepare to confront govt. on reforms” , May 17). They could not proceed as desired. Now, with a comfortable majority, the BJP-led government seems determined to do everything possible to satisfy the corporate sector at the cost of the security nets available to the working class. The government’s pro-rich class perception is very much demonstrated by the decision of the government to bring about amendments in labour laws in which not a single one can be said to benefit the general work force.
