It is true that the economic crisis is fuelling the rising levels of unemployment in the country (“Heavy burden on the young”, Feb. 5). But it is important to note that the growing mismatch between the output of the education system and fluctuating industry needs is another significant factor. Rote accumulation of facts is given preference over mental application and practical ideation. It is the proportion of unskilled personnel that worsens the situation. Encouraging students to build up their innovative capacity can help reduce the future impact of the unemployment burden.
