I am glad that the Mattu Gulla farmers have been able to form a sort of cooperative organisation which will help farmers get a better and stable price for their produce (“Udupi’s brinjal to go places,” April 21). This will help the local people establish a better standard of living. This will also encourage youngsters to stay back rather than migrate to overcrowded cities. The farmers ought to contact “food technology” departments in universities and have them suggest ideas. A certain amount of produce can be made available for canning or dehydration in the same village and sold online. Many of us of Konkani heritage welcome any opportunity to renew our ties to our culinary heritage.
