Two verdicts

November 30, 2013 01:55 am | Updated 01:55 am IST

This week has seen the delivery of two verdicts in two sensational cases — the Aarushi Talwar and the Sankararaman murder cases. In the first, the parents of the teenager were named as the accused and given life sentences on the basis of circumstantial evidence. In the Sankararaman case, the accused were acquitted after key witnesses turned hostile. Aarushi’s murder took place within the confines of her house while Sankararaman was murdered in the precincts of a famous temple at Kancheepuram. There is no doubt that money power and influence can affect the course of a trial.
