There is nothing for us to be jubilant about after the lifting of the >ban on the Indian Olympic Association (Feb.17). Enough damage has already been done. One can understand if the initial ban was politically motivated by the world body. The Indian Olympic Association was banned due to corruption, a national shame. The fact that the tricolour has now been hoisted in the Olympic Village is only a face-saver. Those responsible for this sorry state of affairs should be dealt with in accordance with the law, and the government should prove that it has zero tolerance to corruption even in the field of sports where our national pride is at stake.

What is there to rejoice about? Sports organisations in India have become cozy clubs where favours are done to each other. Nobody thinks of the player who might have devoted his or her entire life toward national glory in a game/sport.
